GSU / PWGSC WFA Committee Meeting Summary

October 17, 2007

1) PSC priority administration: We had asked at the last meeting in August what the role of Public Service Commission was under the new PS modernization Act. They still provide a key role for departments in the staffing process.

2) Local & Regional committees: HR provided us with the web links where minutes are posted. This was brought forward as we were concerned that meetings were not being held and if so, we were not getting copies of the minutes through our own channels.

3) Union representation regarding surplus notices: Issue deals with travel expenses pertaining to the delivery of the notices. There was never a written policy on the issue and historically management reimbursed our Union officers. HR had approached Treasury Board on the issue and now it is being reviewed by PWGSC.

4) DFO - Pacific: Request for formal WFA meetings with the PWGSC management on this issue.

5) Matane: Update on situation there, as a result of discussion with Local President at the Moncton conference.

6) Communication Strategy: Bill Dennis will be sitting on sub-committee looking at previous WFA business cases for information package to be rolled out to the regions at later date.

7) Doreen Hamilton: Long serving member of committee, who worked very closely with Bob Kipper and Bill Dennis on issues that affected our members, has decided to retire. Bob and Bill honored Doreen with their kind words on behalf of GSU and presented her with a GSU sweater.

Once we get the finalized minutes, they will be sent out to RVP's responsible for WFA, for distribution.
