GSU SCHOLARSHIPS
GSU Policy 9 - A. F. Wood Memorial Bursaries
General
This Policy shall be known as the A. F. Wood Memorial Bursaries Policy.
These Bursaries are offered in the memory of Arthur F. Wood. Brother Wood, as Secretary-Treasurer of UPWE from 1970 to 1982 provided unselfish and dedicated service to the members of this GSU predecessor organization.
The Awards
The Union will award two educational Bursaries of $1,000.00 each to children of GSU members.
Criteria
These Bursaries will be awarded to a dependant of a GSU member in good standing at the time of the application. The student must be entering their first or second year of post-secondary education at a recognised institution of higher learning. They must apply for the Bursary by completing an Application Form provided by the GSU national office. The successful applicants will be required to submit proof of their registration in a post secondary institution. The Bursaries will be awarded based on academic achievement and financial need.
Exceptions
If the National Council decides not to award a Bursary in a particular year, the funds for that Bursary will be rolled over into the next year, therefore allowing additional awards to be made in the following year. Bursary recipients may not apply for the award a second time.
